Trust & Transparency

How we rank professionals

The factors that decide who appears first on directory and search pages — and the things that never influence rank.

Ranking factors

Six signals, in priority order

High weight

Verification status

Verified profiles rank above claimed-but-unverified profiles. Unverified profiles rank below both — never the other way around.

High weight

Geographic relevance

On city and state pages, profiles physically licensed in or actively serving that location rank above profiles that don't.

Medium weight

Specialty match

On specialty pages (real estate CPA, S-Corp tax, fractional CFO, etc.), professionals with documented experience in that specialty rank higher.

Medium weight

Review quality

Average rating weighted by recency and review count. We dampen the effect of fewer than five reviews so new pros aren't unfairly buried.

Medium weight

Responsiveness

Profiles that respond to quote requests within 48 hours rank higher. Profiles that consistently ignore inbound leads rank lower.

Low weight

Profile completeness

A complete profile (bio, services, industries, hours, license number, photo) ranks above a sparse one.

What never influences rank

Things we don't do — ever

These practices are inconsistent with running a trustworthy directory. None of them happens on CPAZenith.

  • Pay-for-position. There is no paid placement on standard directory and search pages.
  • Removing a competitor on request. We do not de-rank or hide a profile because another professional asked.
  • Hiding negative reviews to lift a profile. Rating is rating.
  • Boosting profiles owned by CPAZenith staff, investors, or partners.

Sponsored slots

How paid placement is handled

Some pages may show a small number of sponsored slots. When they do, every sponsored slot is:

  • Clearly labeled 'Sponsored' with a tooltip explaining what that means.
  • Capped to a fixed number of slots above or alongside the organic list.
  • Subject to the same verification requirements as organic listings.
  • Excluded from rating, badge, and editorial coverage decisions.

For the full rules see the Sponsored Listing Disclosure.

FAQ

Common questions

Is ranking ever influenced by a paid plan?

Sponsored slots are clearly labeled and capped. Organic rank — what you see on the standard list — is never influenced by payment. A pro on the free plan can outrank a pro on the highest paid plan, and frequently does.

Why did my profile drop?

The most common reasons: a missed re-verification, a sustained drop in response rate, removal of a key field (license number, address), or a competitor in your area added stronger profile content. Updating your profile and replying to recent quote requests usually restores rank within a re-index cycle.

How often does the ranking update?

We re-index nightly. Material changes (verification, claim, suspension) propagate within a few hours. Review-driven changes propagate at the next re-index.

Can I appeal my ranking?

You can dispute the underlying data (wrong specialty, wrong address, missing license) by emailing hello@cpazenith.com. We do not negotiate rank position itself — only the inputs that drive it.
